Job Description/Requirements
As an Education Officer, your will:
● Provide technical support and training to teachers
● Make sure the schools are provided with necessary resources
● Make sure quality, effective learning environments are in place for children
● Visit UWS schools regularly and monitor the performance of teachers. You will build their capacity
to make sure the quality of education provided by the UWS schools meet the national standards
● Build strong working relationships with the communities in ethnic-minority and remote areas
(often involving overnight stays in villages)
● Work with the Education Manager to develop necessary and effective tools, curriculum, teaching
methodologies for teachers in UWS schools
● Identify appropriate KG (kindergarten) and primary school teachers for UWS schools
● Work together with stakeholders to facilitate the formation of School Support Committees
● Build capacity of School Support Committees to make sure the schools are managed well
● Complete monthly documentation and reporting requirements, and work with Hub Officer to
develop other necessary reporting mechanisms
● Report schools’ and teachers’ performance from assigned schools to hub officer
● Collect and submit (monthly) a small variety of photos regarding your assigned schools
● Coordinate other school project logistics, as required
● Work together with building officer in the maintenance of UWS schools
● Identify potential villages to build new schools under the supervision of Hub officer
● Get the proper baseline information of any potential new villages
● Work with local education authorities, building good relationships with them
● Follow and support UWS Vision, Mission, Values and all Policies (in particular, Child
Safeguarding, and Staff Safeguarding)
● Strong understanding of international standards of Child Protection minimum for safe guarding of the
children
Essential Requirements, you must have:
● Teaching Experience in the Primary Education sector
● A passion for improving the education of remote and marginalized communities in Myanmar
● You must be willing and available to be based (live) in Eastern Shan State, in the Township UWS
assigns you, with frequent travel to remote village communities
● Ability to ride a motorbike, including in wet season, on remote mountain roads
● A team-member spirit, and the ability to work effectively with others, including being able to
influence, encourage, support, mentor and share information clearly
● Ability to use computers and technology (email, Microsoft documents etc)
● Demonstrated ability to cooperate and follow agreed procedures
● Ability to work independently, set work-plans, prioritize, reach targets and meet deadlines
● A positive mindset to overcome challenges and be a creative problem solver
● Effective oral and written communication skills for working with a wide range of people in various
situations
● Sensitivity and respect for ethnic, linguistic, religious and cultural diversity.
