Job Description/Requirements

AHRN-Myanmar is looking for highly motivated and reliable individuals who are keen to be

part of an active team/organization that delivers wide range of services to improve the health

of vulnerable person to fill in the position of “Laboratory Technician” for its ongoing Harm

Reduction activities in Myanmar.

• The position is full-time, based in Mawlaik, Sagaing Region with a probation period of

three months.

• Starting date of the contract: As soon as possible

Personal and Professional Requirements

• Graduate of Paramedical Science (Medical Laboratory Technology) or Diploma or Grade

I or II in Medical Laboratory Technology

• Having experience will be an advantage;

• Fluent in Myanmar and Good command of English;

• Good communication and networking (interpersonal) skills;

• Resident of job location (or) Knowledge of local dialect will be given preference;

Main Responsibilities

• Maintain the high quality of the laboratory service;

• To perform laboratory tests as written in the laboratory protocols manual regarding;

o Diagnosing Malaria

o Diagnosing Tuberculosis

o Diagnosing Sexually transmitted disease

• To maintain laboratory equipment in a clean and operable condition;

• Ensure there are sufficient laboratory reagents and materials to enable the laboratory to

function efficiently;

• To perform minor maintenance and cleaning of the biomedical equipment following user

manual and protocols. Alerting the supervisor in case of malfunctioning of any device;

• To follow sensible health and safety procedures, including the use of appropriate

protective materials, the safe handling of specimens, and the safe disposal of specimens

and laboratory waste;

• To perform other laboratory related tasks when required. For example, phlebotomy;

• To maintain register books for each testing to record the receipt and results of all

laboratory specimens;

• To ensure laboratory results are sent to the doctors on time;

• To collect and supply laboratory data as required. For example, monthly report forms &

quality control data;

• To perform cross check quality control as written in the QC protocol;

• To organize the collection External TB quality control slides monthly and sends to NTP

QC center;

• To provide technical training on HTS, Hep B &C, syphilis and malaria rapid diagnostic

testing and other point of care testing like Hb% and RBS to non-Lab Technicians (e.g.,

nurses and nurses counsellors) as requested by medical unit;

• Ensure the proper respect and guidance of AHRN laboratory protocols;

• Ensure lab reagents and materials/equipment are stored in secured and appropriate places

in AHRN laboratories;

• Represent the laboratory team in external meetings on request;

• To keep good communication with other team members;

• To accomplish any tasks relating laboratory assigned by Project Manager and Laboratory

Coordinator for smooth running of organizational activities;
