DESCRIPTION OF AMERICAN ENGLISH MYANMAR-PARAMI ENGLISH LANGUAGE INITIATIVE

(AEM-Parami)

The AEM-Parami English Language Initiative is a collaboration between American Center Yangon and Parami

University to provide English language courses tailored to the specific needs of Myanmar youth. The AEM-Parami

team will design and deliver online English language instruction courses customized to the needs of the market (to be

determined through a needs assessment process) that might include objectives such as preparation for study abroad,

academic work, and English for specific industries. The program will also include online public programming

activities and self-study courses for the broader learning public in Myanmar. Within the first year of operations, the

initiative aims to develop 4-6 courses, educate over 400 students in live online classes, and reach thousands of students

through the self-paced learning platform and public programming activities.

JOB SUMMARY

The Program Director will be in charge of the entire project operation, and will be the primary liaison with AEM and

Parami teams. The primary responsibilities of the Program Director include:

1) Recruiting and hiring the project team including English language instructors, facilitators, education technology

administrators, and communications personnel;

2) Contracting with a consultants team for needs assessment and curriculum development, engaging with them and

providing input, and finalizing the curriculum and course design in consultation with AEM and Parami teams;

3) Overseeing needs assessment, curriculum development and program design processes;

4) Overseeing course delivery and implementation of program activities which will take place online via a learning

management system;

5) Forming partnerships with other education and youth organizations to supplement program activities;

6) Developing and setting institutional policies and processes;

7) Developing and overseeing M&E and financial mechanisms;

8) Managing program finances; and

9) Undertaking project reporting.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

1) Fluency in English; fluency in Myanmar preferred;

2) A Master’s degree in education or related field;

3) At least 5 years of relevant experience in project management and managerial role; and

4) Experience in Teaching English for Students of Other Languages, needs assessment, curriculum development,

and education technology including learning management systems.
